The joint between the lower jaw and the temporal cavity (in front of the ear) is commonly called the TMJ, or the temporomandibular joint. If there is disorderly function, you may feel pain or discomfort.
Vulnerability factors related to TMJ disorders:
- Problematic chewing
- One or several missing teeth
Also, various external sources may lead to TMJ disorders: fatigue, jaw trauma, stress (frequent jaw-clenching), cold and humidity, gum-chewing habit or biting fingernails, playing certain musical instruments, underwater diving with a snorkel, emotional shock, etc.
If you experience jaw pain, or if you think you’re at a risk of developing issues relating to TMJ, please share you concerns with Dr. Cyr – he’ll be happy to decide with you the best solution to your situation.
